Thursday, January 8, 2009

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today was named by Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) as an Assistant Republican Whip. As an Assistant Whip, Scalise will be responsible for tracking legislation and providing the rest of the Republican Conference with vote recommendations.

“As we begin this new Congress, I am honored to join Congressman Cantor and the Republican leadership team as an Assistant Republican Whip,” Scalise said. “I will be working to support and promote conservative policies that cut taxes for middle class families to turn our economy around, and to restore fiscal discipline by controlling spending in Washington.”

Republican Whip Cantor said, “This week begins our march toward a stronger future for America based on revitalized, common sense ideals.  I’m pleased that Congressman Scalise has joined the Republican Whip Team, the team that will act as the cornerstone of House Republican efforts to preserve, protect and create a better tomorrow for working families.  This team is comprised of top leaders that will advance a positive vision for the future of our country, a vision based on accountability, transparency and action.  I look forward to getting to work alongside of Steve.”
