Help with Search Results

When you execute a search at the NRC Web site, you obtain a list of the documents that match your search criteria.

Relevancy Ranking

In most cases, the items will be listed in order of their relevancy. However, not all queries rank their results. Only those queries that can have varying degrees of matching can be ranked. For example, <CONTAINS> queries either do or do not contain the given string, but <NEAR> queries can be ranked according to how close the words are to each other: Words found closer together are listed at the top of the search results, while those that are far apart are put at the bottom of the results.

The Search Result Entry

Each entry in the list of search results gives standard information about the matching file, including the relevancy ranking and the document title that links to the document itself.

At the top of the Search Results page is another instance of the Search form, where you may continue refining your search to improve the precision of the results list.

If the search engine found matches in more than 30 files, only the first 30 will appear on the first results page. Select the Next icon above the list to see the next 30, if available.
