WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Mike Michaud announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded an Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant of $227,973 to the Town of Caribou for the construction of a new taxiway at Caribou Municipal Airport.  The grant provides funding for the removal of the existing runway and the construction of a new taxiway that complies with current FAA standards. The new taxiway location will also allow direct access to the terminal area.

"I am pleased that the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded this funding to Caribou," Michaud said.  "Upgraded infrastructure at the Caribou Municipal Airport is essential for safety and bringing new economic opportunities to northern Maine."

The Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies and to private owners and entities for the planning and development of public-use airports.  AIP projects include those improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns.
