Arrests of males in metropolitan counties decreased 1.4 percent in 2007 when compared with 2006 figures; however, arrests of females increased 0.3 percent.
In 2007, the number of males under age 18 arrested in metropolitan counties declined 2.6 percent, and the number of females under age 18 arrested increased less than one-tenth of 1 percent.
Of arrests for violent crimes in metropolitan counties in 2007, the number of arrests of males decreased 1.9 percent; the number of arrests of females increased 1.7 percent.
Arrests of males under 18 years of age for violent crimes decreased 1.1 percent, and arrests of females under 18 years of age for violent crimes declined 0.2 percent.
In 2007, the number of males arrested for property crimes in metropolitan counties declined 0.8 percent; the number of females arrested for property crimes in metropolitan counties increased 6.1 percent.
Arrests of males under the age of 18 for property crimes decreased 4.7 percent, with the largest decrease, 18.4 percent, shown for motor vehicle theft.
Two-year trends showed a 7.4-percent increase in the number of arrests of females under the age of 18 for property crimes in metropolitan counties from 2006 to 2007; the largest increase (10.1) percent was reported for arrests for larceny-theft.
