In the Nation’s cities, 83.2 percent of the 8,166,688 persons arrested in 2007 were adults (age 18 and over). Of all the adults arrested, 35.2 percent were between the ages of 18 and 24.
Adults accounted for 82.8 percent of the people arrested for violent crime and 73.2 percent of those arrested for property crime.
Of the individuals arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, 89.0 percent were adults. Persons aged 18 and over accounted for 86.1 percent of those individuals arrested for aggravated assault, 84.5 percent of arrestees for forcible rape, and 72.0 percent of persons arrested for robbery.
Juveniles were most frequently arrested for larceny-theft offenses (200,449) and other (simple) assaults (140,474).
In the Nation’s cities, adults were most often arrested for drug abuse violations (953,182) and driving under the influence (667,325).
