Collectively, the number of arrests in the Nation’s cities increased 0.3 percent in 2007 from the previous year’s figure.
The number of adults arrested in cities increased 0.6 percent in 2007; however, the number of juveniles (under 18 years of age) arrested decreased 1.3 percent.
The number of persons arrested for violent crime declined 0.8 percent, while the number of persons arrested for property crime rose 6.7 percent.
In 2007, the number of juveniles arrested fell 2.9 percent for violent crime, but increased 5.1 percent for property crime when compared with data for 2006.
The number of adults arrested in 2007 declined 0.4 percent for violent crime, but increased 7.4 percent for property crime when compared with the 2006 data.
The number of arrests for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter increased 1.9 percent during 2007 when compared with the 2006 figure. The number of adults arrested for this crime increased 1.7 percent, and the number of juveniles arrested rose 3.4 percent.
The number of adults arrested for motor vehicle theft fell 10.6 percent in 2007, and the number of juveniles arrested for motor vehicle theft dropped 13.4 percent.
The number of adults arrested for larceny-theft rose 10.4 percent in 2007 in comparison with 2006 data.
