In 2007, the total number of males and females arrested increased from the number arrested in 2003—2.6 percent and 8.3 percent, respectively.
The 5-year trend data showed that the number of males arrested in 2007 for violent crimes increased 0.3 percent, and the number of females arrested for these offenses rose 2.2 percent.
A comparison of the data for 2003 and 2007 showed that the number of male and female juveniles (persons under age 18) arrested declined—3.6 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively.
In 2007, the number of male juveniles arrested for violent crimes increased 6.0 percent from the number arrested in 2003; the number of female juveniles arrested for these offenses declined 1.4 percent.
The data for the same 2 years showed that in 2007 the number of males arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter rose 3.6 percent and the number of females arrested for this offense declined 2.3 percent.
For juveniles, the number of males arrested in 2007 for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter increased 27.3 percent from the number arrested in 2003, and the number of females arrested for this offense increased 10.5 percent.
The 5-year trend indicated that the number of males arrested in 2007 for property crimes declined 3.5 percent; the number of females arrested for these offenses increased 8.2 percent.
