The violent crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the United States in 2007 was 466.9.
In Metropolitan Statistical Areas, the violent crime rate was 504.0 per 100,000 inhabitants. In cities outside metropolitan areas, the violent crime rate was 395.0 per 100,000 inhabitants, and in nonmetropolitan counties, the violent crime rate was 209.3 per 100,000 in population.
The murder rate in the United States was 5.6 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants.
In 2007, the murder rate in Metropolitan Statistical Areas was 6.1 per 100,000 inhabitants. The murder rates in cities outside metropolitan areas and in nonmetropolitan counties was 3.7 per 100,000 inhabitants and 3.1 murders per 100,000 in population, respectively.
The property crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the United States in 2007 was 3,263.5.
In Metropolitan Statistical Areas, the property crime rate was 3,416.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. In cities outside metropolitan areas, the property crime rate was 3,773.5 per 100,000 inhabitants, and in nonmetropolitan counties, the property crime rate was 1,667.9 per 100,000 in population.
