A: I was a small business owner in the restaurant and real estate industries. My family owned and operated a family restaurant. I have a real estate company called Calvert Real Properties in downtown Q: In history, who is your favorite President and why? A: My favorite President is Abraham Lincoln because he maintained the Q: Have you always been interested in politics? What made you decide to run for Congress? A: It is everyone’s responsibility to be engaged in politics in one form or another, especially in exercising their civic responsibility to vote. The I have been involved in politics for most of my life. I volunteered for several Republican candidates including former President Ronald Reagan and former California Governor Pete Wilson. Q: When were you first elected to Congress? A: After an initial attempt to run for Congress in 1982, I was first elected in 1992. Members of the House of Representatives are elected every two years for a two-year term. Currently, there are no term limits for Members of Congress. I am currently serving my seventh term in the House. Q: Do you plan to retire? If so, what will do you afterwards? A: I do not plan to retire any time soon.
