Fulton Transit to Receive $217,800 from DOT
June 30, 2006
WASHINGTON, June 30 - U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield on Friday announced that the Fulton County Transit Authority (FCTA) will receive a $217,800 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
The grant will cover the full cost of five replacement cutaway vehicles and one new support vehicle serving residents in Fulton, Hickman, and Graves counties. Whitfield secured the funding as part of the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2006. Since 2001, Whitfield has secured nearly $900,000 in federal assistance for FCTA.
"I am pleased that these funds have been made available to the Fulton County Transit Authority. These replacement vehicles will improve transportation services and open up new opportunities for residents in the transit authoritys three-county service area. I will continue to work for other federal assistance for Fulton County and the rest of the Purchase Area," said Whitfield.
The grant is administered by DOT's Federal Transit Administration. The FTA provides financial assistance to develop new transit systems and improve, maintain, and operate existing systems. FTA funds are available to designated recipients that must be public bodies (i.e. states, cities, towns, regional governments, transit authorities, etc.) with the legal authority under receive and dispense federal funds.
