As chair of the House Sugar Caucus, I am deeply involved in the continued success of the farmers of south Louisiana. Growing up in Assumption Parish, I've spent my whole life around sugarcane producers and know how hard they work to stay in business. I have worked hard to make sure their interests are protected in the Farm Bills that pass through the House.
The economy of south Louisiana depends upon the success of our fishing industries. In the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, federal support for these dynamic industries has been necessary for their survival. I have supported legislation that will help to rebuild any damage done to businesses of the resilient fishermen of south Louisiana. Their work is a part of our heritage and spirit in south Louisiana, and I am proud to do all that I can on their behalf in Congress.
