Energy and Environment

Like many Americans, I am concerned about the harmful effects greenhouse gases and global climate change are having on our environment.  Those of us who live along the coast are especially worried about rising sea levels and the recent increase in major hurricanes like Katrina and Rita.   You just have to look at any elevation map of the U.S. to see that if sea levels rise even just slightly, most of south Louisiana will be under water.  We must reverse this dangerous trend.

I believe we need an energy policy that puts our nation on the path toward being energy self-sufficient, so we are not at the mercy of foreign, sometimes unfriendly, countries like Venezuela and China. Raising taxes on American businesses will not make us more energy independent, and less domestic energy production means higher energy costs for Louisianians. I believe we should be looking at ways to lower energy costs in the short term while simultaneously working toward a future of more renewable energy production.

I support legislation that will take America in the direction of greater energy independence and efficiency, and ultimately lower energy costs. This is a balanced approach toward fighting global climate change and increasing the United States' energy security that will ensure the safety and prosperity of all Americans.
