Acceleration of Critical Endangered Species Act (ESA) Compliance
The Acceleration of Critical Endangered Species Act (ESA) Compliance element of the Initiative strives to accelerate activities to maintain and improve existing populations of Federally listed or proposed species and designated or proposed critical habitat affected by Reclamation’s projects and programs. Priority will be given to activities that focus on addressing simultaneous and often competing needs of listed species and water supply. The acceleration of these critical ESA compliance activities is vital to securing water supplies for 21st Century America. The President’s budget for FY 2009 requests $8.9 million towards the Accelerationof Critical ESA Compliance. This is for Reclamation to use for its ongoing ESA activities and is not available externally.
