Policy No. 308
11/2/07
NEW HIRE INTRODUCTORY PERIOD

POLICY

All new employees are subject to a six-month New Hire Introductory Period.  The purpose of the New Hire Introductory Period is to provide supervisors with an opportunity to evaluate new employees and to determine whether an employee can effectively perform the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodation.  An employee’s New Hire Introductory Period may be extended for an additional period upon the request of the supervisor and approval of the Human Resources representative. An employee’s performance continues to be evaluated on a regular basis after the New Hire Introductory Period.

Nothing about this introductory period changes in any way the employee’s at-will employment. Because employment is based on mutual consent, the right of the employee or the company to terminate the employment relationship “at will” is recognized and affirmed as a condition of employment.  Therefore, employment may be terminated by either party at any time, for any reason.  Any statements or promises to the contrary must not be relied upon by any prospective or existing employee.

PROCEDURE

The supervisor is responsible for reviewing the progress of new employees.  In the event that concerns or problems arise, the supervisor should contact the Human Resources representative to determine the appropriate action.

RESPONSIBILITY
