Republicans call on Pelosi to Streamline DHS Oversight
(November 20, 2008) - Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (NY), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security released a letter he and fellow Committee Ranking Members sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, calling on Democrats to consolidate jurisdiction of the Department of Homeland Security.  Currently, DHS must answer to over 100 committees and subcommittees, a number which jumped from 86 only one year ago.

King calls lack of Authorization bill 'absolute failure'
(September 24, 2008) - Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (NY), Ranking Member on the Committee on Homeland Security reacted to reports that the FY09 Homeland Security authorization bill will not be passed by either chamber this year.  King called the news "an absolute failure by House Democrats."

King Bombing Prevention bill passes House
(June 18, 2008) - Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (NY), Ranking Member on the Committee on Homeland Security, announced that H.R. 4749, The National Bombing Prevention Act of 2008 passed the House.  The bill establishes an Office of Bombing Prevention within DHS and directs the President to develop a national strategy to prevent and prepare for terrorist explosive attacks in the United States.

King releases Report on link between Cigarette Smuggling and Terror
(April 29, 2008) - Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (NY), Ranking Member on the Committee on Homeland Security, announced a staff report titled, “Tobacco and Terror: How Cigarette Smuggling is Funding Our Enemies Abroad.”  The report found that a well-organized smuggling operation can generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in a single week, with a portion of that money often being funneled to terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

King on lack of DHS Authorization bill
(April 9, 2008) - Today, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (NY), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, called on Committee Democrats to draft the annual Authorization bill for the Department of Homeland Security.  This would be the first time in five years that the Committee has not taken up an Authorization bill.
