Barron County Print

Barron County is located in northwest Wisconsin.  This area was once part of the Northwest Territory.  Originally formed into a new county in 1845 from portions of Polk County, it was named Dallas County, in honor of George M. Dallas, Vice President of the United States.

The boundaries of the county were changed many times, but in 1874 they were fixed as they are at present.  In 1869, the name of the county was changed from Dallas to Barron, in honor of Henry D. Barron, a man who had gained recognition as an editor, Assemblyman, Senator, and Circuit Court Judge.

The county seat is Barron.
