Adults aren't the only ones who have questions about today's economy and how it affects the future.
As part of National School Lunch Week, U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Chumuckla, visited Bailey Middle School on Monday, where he spoke to Karen Yudiski's eighth-grade American history class before adjourning to the lunch room, where he shook hands and took photos with students.
Students asked Miller his thoughts on the economy and the stock market, revealing signs that the waves of uncertainty in the stock and credit markets have far-reaching implications.
"They're paying attention. They know what's going on in the world," he said. "It's fun to come talk to a group of students because they all have different ideas, but they have great questions."
Before Miller, who is on recess from congressional meetings, arrived, students researched his congressional record. Some asked questions about his political ambitions to continue working as a congressman. He, in turn, shared pocket-size manuals with the U.S. Constitution and answered questions.
"He gave them a whole government lesson that takes me a few weeks to cover," Yudiski said.
Eighth-grader Jacob Delmonico, 13, said Miller's job is "cool," but probably can be stressful.
"He has to think about the cause and effect of his decisions," Jacob said. "If he changes one thing, what other changes could it cause for better or for worse?"
Miller flies back to Washington, D.C., today to await Wednesday's arrival of area World War II veterans participating in the second Emerald Coast Honor Flight.
