Braley Supports Transportation Bill that Moves Dubuque’s Southwest Arterial Closer to Reality House Passes Bill that Moves $5.5 Million from Julien Dubuque Bridge to Southwest Arterial Project Washington, Apr 30 - Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) today voted to support a Technical Corrections Bill (HR 1195) to the 2005 Highway Bill that would shift $5.5 million of funding from the Julien Dubuque Bridge project to the Southwest Arterial project in Dubuque. Braley is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which crafted the original legislation. The measure passed the House minutes ago, 358-51. The bill moves $5.5 million from the Julien Dubuque Bridge to the Southwest Arterial, and clarifies that $11 million already secured for the Arterial stays with the project. “Investing in the Southwest Arterial will both create jobs and help the flow of traffic through Dubuque,” Braley said. “It’s been a tough road getting this change included in the highway bill, but I believe it’s good for Dubuque’s economy. By passing this bill, we are one step closer to taking a step to alleviate the congestion that’s been plaguing Dubuque’s Dodge Street corridor.”
The Senate passed the same Technical Corrections Bill two weeks ago. HR 1195 now advances to the President for his signature. |
