Washington, Apr 30 - Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA) released the following statement today in response the resignation of GSA Administrator Lurita Doan at the request of the White House:

Braley said, “The Bush administration took a long overdue step by asking Lurita Doan for her resignation.  Lurita Doan violated the law and the public trust by holding political briefings on federal property.  It’s unacceptable for the head of a federal agency to participate in partisan activities with taxpayer resources.  Even Bush’s own Office of Special Counsel said that she had violated the Hatch Act.  I’m happy that Lurita Doan has finally taken responsibility for her actions.”

The House Oversight and Government Reform committee held a March 2007 hearing on misconduct at the General Services Administration (GSA), including allegations that Lurita Doan engaged in partisan campaign activities on federal property.  Such activity would violate the Hatch Act, which prohibits using federal resources to aid political parties.

Video of Braley grilling Doan during the hearing gained a wide following on the Internet, where a YouTube video attracted over 100,000 viewers.
