Braley Supports Second Stimulus Package to Help Working Families |
Washington, DC -Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Waterloo) voted today to support a second stimulus package that would create jobs, boost the economy and provide relief for working families struggling with the rising costs of energy, healthcare, and groceries. HR 7110, the Job Creation and Unemployment Relief Act, passed the House today on a vote of 264-158. "This bill will provide much needed relief for Iowa's working families, Braley said. "During this time of uncertainty, this bill ensures that Iowa families will have access to health care. It also provides job training programs and unemployment benefits for those who have lost their jobs." "Today's legislation takes steps to strengthen our economy now and in the future. By investing in America's infrastructure, we will create jobs and grow our economy." The Economic Stimulus Package would extend unemployment benefits for the growing number of Americans looking for work, help ensure families don't go hungry by providing additional Food Stamp assistance and ensure that working families do not lose health coverage as a result of state budget crises. Today's legislation would have an immediate effect on the economy by making investments in infrastructure projects that can start quickly, meet existing needs, and create jobs. These projects provide a short term benefit by putting people back to work, and result in long term infrastructure improvements that will benefit Americans for years to come. Projects include bridge and highway construction, school reconstruction and additional funds to improve public transportation. |
