Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) was appointed as a member of the conference committee for the Flood Insurance Modernization Act of 2007 (H.R. 3121).  The conference committee will develop a final version of the Flood Insurance Modernization Act, which makes changes to the National Flood Insurance Program. 

"I'm honored to have the opportunity to represent Iowa's needs in the aftermath of the Floods of 2008," Braley said.  "As the House and Senate work together to improve our flood insurance program, I will be working hard to ensure that Iowans have improved access to flood insurance and increased coverage in times of flooding."

"Because of the widespread concerns that I've heard regarding flood insurance from individuals throughout eastern Iowa, I encourage Iowans experiencing problems with flood insurance to contact one of my district offices to express your concerns.  Knowing the experiences of my constituents will help me better understand the changes needed to our flood insurance policies."

The Flood Insurance Modernization Act of 2007 passed the House last September and passed the Senate May 13, 2008.  The conference committee will resolve any differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill, so that a final version can be brought before both chambers.
