Braley Secures $670,000 for Iowa in Justice Funding Bill |
Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) announced that he secured $670,000 for eastern Iowa crime fighting needs in the FY 2009 Commerce Justice Science appropriations bill. This bill was passed today by the House Appropriations Committee. Specifically, Braley secured $150,000 for the Governor's Office of Drug Control Policy for drug enforcement teams and $520,000 for the Boys and Girls Home and Family Services to care for child and adolescent victims of complex trauma. The Governor's Office of Drug Control Policy funding will be used for Meth and Other Drug Enforcement (MODE) teams, which work to investigate the increasing amounts of meth, cocaine and other illegal drugs throughout Iowa. "The Office of Drug Control Policy works hard to keep Iowa safe and drug free," Braley said. "I'm pleased that they will have the funding they need to continue targeting drug traffickers and work to keep illegal drugs off Iowa's streets." The funding for Boys and Girls Home and Family Services will be used to develop a Category III Community Treatment and Services program to serve the growing population of child and adolescent trauma victims in Iowa. Congressmen Braley, Boswell and Loebsack worked together to secure this funding. "Boys and Girls Home have worked for years to serve the needs of Iowa's families," Braley said. "I'm glad that Boys and Girls Home will have the resources to help young trauma victims start on the road to recovery." The Commerce Justice Science appropriations bill now moves to the full House for consideration. |
