Farm Bill Includes Braley's "New Era" Renewable Energy Workforce Training Program
Washington, May 21 - Today, Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) voted to override President Bush's veto of the 2007 Farm Bill. The override passed the House minutes ago. "The Farm Bill is far from perfect, but it's a step in the right direction and we need to pass this critical legislation into law," Braley said. "The Farm Bill takes several important steps to help ease the strain of rising fuel prices, make further investments in renewable fuels, and enhance rural economic development. "Furthermore, the Farm Bill includes my New Era Program to boost renewable energy workforce training programs at community colleges across the country. This program will help train a new generation of renewable energy workers. I urge the Senate to quickly vote to overturn the President's veto on this important bill." Braley's New Era Program is included in the Research section of the Farm Bill. Braley's language authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to award grants to community colleges who launch renewable energy workforce education programs. |
