Monday September 29, 2008Washington, D.C. – Today, I voted to support the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act because I believe the compromise will help protect working and middle-class families from the crisis on Wall Street. I think the rescue plan will bring stability to the markets as we try to turn around our economy. But, this bill is a very bitter pill for me. I probably have become the leading critic in Congress of the mortgage lending industry, including the financial institutions that bought predatory mortgages knowing full well the consequences of those mortgages for middle-class homeowners.

Tuesday July 08, 2008Washington, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to pass the Preserve America and Save America's Treasures Act tonight with a near unanimous vote. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Brad Miller (NC-13), establishes two grant programs under which the Secretary of the Interior, in partnership with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, can provide grants for "brick and mortar" preservation and to support preservation efforts through heritage tourism, education, and historic preservation planning activities.
