The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (NLEOMF) was dedicated in 1991 and honors all of America’s federal, state, and local law enforcement officers.
Surrounding a Central Plaza are two tree-lined "pathways of remembrance" where the names of more than 14,000 men and women killed in the line of duty, dating back to the first known death in 1794, are engraved on blue-gray marble walls. Directories at each of the four entrance points assist visitors in locating a particular officer.
Each pathway entrance has a bronze statue of an adult lion protecting its cubs which "symbolize the protective role of our law officers and convey the strength, courage and valor that are the hallmarks of those who serve the law enforcement profession."
Each year a candlelight vigil is held in May, to coincide with National Police Week, to add new names of fallen officers to the memorial.

The Memorial is open to the public every day in the year, 24 hours a day. There is no fee to visit the memorial.
