West Basin Drive in West Potomac Park
Southwest Washington, D.C.
Metro Stop: Smithsonian

Dedicated May 2, 1997, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial commemorates the pivotal 12-year span of our 32nd President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, from the Great Depression through World War II.

Located along the famous Cherry Tree Walk on the Western edge of the Tidal Basin, near the National Mall, this is a memorial not only to FDR, but also to the era he represents.

The memorial is composed of a landscape of four outdoor rooms with granite walls inscribed with FDR’s personal quotations, bronze sculptures depicting major moments in his administration, and waterfalls to reflect his lifelong involvement with water.  Each outdor room is devoted to one of FDR's terms of office.

Visitors can meander through and enjoy an artistic narrative history from 1933 to 1945.  A statue of President Roosevelt, his wife Eleanor, and their dog Fala are among nine sets of bronze sculptures in the memorial.

The memorial is open daily, except December 25, with a Park Ranger on site from 8:00 a.m. to midnight.  There are no fees to visit the memorial.
