AMENDMENT PROCESS FOR H.R. 2657 - LEGISLATIVE BRANCH APPROPRIATIONS ACT, 2004

The Rules Committee is planning to meet the week of July 7th to grant a rule which may limit the amendment process on H.R. 2657, the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2004. The bill was ordered reported by the Committee on Appropriations on June 26th, and the report was filed in the House on July 1st.

Any Member wishing to offer an amendment should submit 55 copies of the amendment and one copy of a brief explanation of the amendment to the Rules Committee in room H-312 of the Capitol no later than 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8th. A link to the form used to submit amendments to the Rules Committee is located on the top of the page. Amendments should be drafted to the text of the bill as reported by the Committee on Appropriations.

Members should use the Office of Legislative Counsel to ensure that their amendments are drafted in the most appropriate format. Members are also advised to check with the Office of the Parliamentarian to be certain their amendments comply with the rules of the House.
