Occupational Health Surveillance

OHS provides periodic surveillance exams to employees whose duties require contact with specific chemical, biological, radiological, or physical hazards. Employees are enrolled in surveillance programs by their supervisors.

Surveillance testing and training is done by OHS in conjunction with the Environment, Health and Safety Program (EHS) for respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and other regulated hazards including biologics. Confidential records are maintained for employees and copies are available upon written request. Initial and periodic physical examinations are provided by staff nurse practitioners to all contractor employees. Physicals are offered:

  • Every three years for employees 18-40 years old
  • Every two years for employees 40-50 years old
  • Every year for employees over 50 years old

Periodic blood and urine tests are offered to contract employees, based on potential occupational exposures, followed by a short consult to discuss the results.

For additional information on surveillance programs, see the Health and Safety Compliance Manual.
