Recovery
“Recovery” includes planning for and actions taken following termination of the emergency to return the facility or operations to normal. NNSA starts the recovery planning process and development of a recovery plan with the Cognizant Field Element, or the team at the scene of the emergency, and headquarters. The Recovery Plan contains actions and activities required for returning the site or facility to normal operating condition, including considerations for programmatic and strategic impacts, cleanup, and funding. Specific recovery requirements and procedures are established on a case-by-case basis.
Recovery includes the evaluation of the incident to identify lessons learned and development of initiatives to mitigate the effects of future incidents. Accident Investigation Reports may be prepared to document accident or incident causal factors and root cause, and applicable process weaknesses, and improvements.
