Thompson Writes Chertoff on Watch List Redress

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

October 30, 2007 (Washington) – Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, wrote to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff regarding the Department’s Traveler Redress Inquiry Program, known informally as DHS-TRIP. The letter, which can be accessed by a link below, details a number of concerns about the programs utilization by the whole of the Department. For example, information submitted by an individual to be cleared by the Transportation Security Administration for travel on domestic flights is not being used by Customs and Border Protection to clear the same individual for future border crossings or other purposes.

The Chairman plans to examine these and other DHS TRIP issues at a Committee on Homeland Security hearing to be held on November 8, 2007.
