REYES ANNOUNCES $106,612 FEDERAL GRANT FOR EL PASO HOUSING AUTHORITY
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Silvestre Reyes, D-El Paso, today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $106,612 to the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso (HACEP) to provide training and other resources to help residents obtain employment. The funds are part of the Housing Choice Voucher - Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program.
"With our economy in recession, many Americans are having a difficult time finding jobs," Congressman Reyes said. "These funds will provide job training, counseling, and other resources to help local public housing residents obtain employment and achieve financial independence."
The Department of Housing and Urban Development FSS program encourages communities to develop local strategies that will help public housing residents to find jobs and achieve financial self sufficiency. The funds are administered by local public housing agencies (PHAs). The PHAs work with welfare agencies, schools, businesses, and other local partners to develop a comprehensive program that gives participating FSS family members the skills and experience to enable them to obtain employment that pays a living wage.
