Recycling of Electronics or Equipment
Electronics have large quantities of reusable materials which can be extracted for valuable use. Electronics also have hazardous materials which may pose a threat to the environment and human health, if not disposed of properly. Broken or obsolete electronics should be recycled in an environmentally sound manner as it is good for the environment and our facility.
The Department of Energy Headquarters takes great pride in its participation in the recycling of electronic equipment. Our Award Winning program is a vital instrument in the proper disposition of obsolete electronics as a means of preventing them from being disposed of in landfills.
As part of the Federal Electronics Challenge, the U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters (DOE) is committed to purchasing green products and disposing of electronics and IT equipment in an environmentally responsible manner. This commitment extends to IT equipment or electronics that are donated through the Computers for Learning Program. As such, we ask the recipients of our recycled electronics and IT equipment to support this effort by either recycling the equipment or else disposing of it in an environmentally sound manner when it no longer meets their needs.
If you need assistance in finding links to donation, recycling and manufacturer take-back web sites, or to your local or state environmental or solid waste agencies, please visit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s eCycling Web site at: http://www.epa.gov/epawaste/conserve/materials/ecycling/donate.htm.
