Secretary of Energy’s Project Management Excellence Awards Program

Photo - Secretary Samuel W. BodmanA primary role that DOE plays within the federal government that distinguishes us from many other agencies is the delivery of large, complex projects. The effective and predictable delivery of large projects must be perceived to be, a core organizational competency for DOE and its employees to grow and prosper. The annual Secretary of Energy’s Project Management Excellence Awards pay tribute to those teams and/or individual's who have achieved outstanding results through resourceful, innovative thinking and implementation and recognize outstanding performance based on the success of the program and overall management of the program or project.

Award Categories

The Secretary's Excellence in Project Management Award
This award will be presented to a project team that has demonstrated “exceptional” results in completing a project within cost and schedule. 

The Secretary's Project Management Award of Achievement
This award will be presented to a project team who has demonstrated "significant" results in completing a project within cost and schedule.

The Secretary's Project Management Improvement Award
This award will be presented to a project team that has implemented new ideas, methods, or processes that led to measurable improvements in project management.

Applicability

This program applies to any DOE O 413.3 compliant project that has been completed within the approved cost, schedule and performance objectives during the previous Fiscal Year (FY). All types of projects are eligible such as line-item construction, operating funded projects, and IT projects.

Note: The 2005 award program announced in March, for projects completed during FY2004 has been expanded to include projects completed in FY2005. Project teams that submitted a nomination package in response to the March 2005 announcement will need to resubmit under the new criteria. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused project teams that submitted an application in response to the previous announcement.
