SEARCH TIPS

Navigating Your Results

If your journal search results in many titles, they will be displayed on more than one page [total number of titles per screen is 100]. You will then see multiple "navigation links" near the top of the results pages as shown in the illustration below.

To quickly jump to the title range you are looking for, move your mouse cursor or "hover" over one of the letter ranges [e.g. Esq - Ext] to display the full journal title range for that "navigation link" in the Status Bar at the bottom of the window.

Note: You must have the "Status Bar" option activated in your browser to see the title range in the Status Bar. To check this in IE, click on "View," then click on "Status Bar" if you don't see a checkmark next to it. In Netscape, click on "View," then "Show/Hide" to locate the "Status Bar". In Mozilla/Firefox, go to "Tools," "Options," then "Web Features" [or "Contents" depending on the version of your browser], "Advanced," then check the box next to "Change status bar text".

Search for a Journal by Title or ISSN

The A-to-Z title search looks only for journal titles. It does not search journal content. Use the pull-down menu to select one of the following:

Title begins with: This is the default search. Enter 2 or more letters of the beginning of the title. The more letters you enter, the more specific the search. Initial articles (the, a, an, etc.) are ignored by the search engine. No wildcards or truncation characters are needed or valid in this search.

Example: A search for immuno will find all titles that begin with that string, such as "Immunology," "Immunological Reviews," and "Immunobiology."

Title equals: Enter the exact title. Initial articles (the, a, an, etc.) are ignored by the search engine. No wildcards or truncation characters are needed or valid in this search.

Example: A search for Lanet Oncology will find "Lancet Oncology."

Title contains all words: Enter one or more title words in any order. This search will match titles that contain all words. You can use an asterisk/wildcard (*) to find partial words (e.g. neuro*).

Example: A search for ann* gen* will find "Annals of Human Genetics," and "Annual Reviews of Genetics."

ISSN Equals: Enter the 8-digit ISSN which is found to the immediate right of each journal title. Each title has its own unique ISSN.

Example: A search for 15458547 will find "Zebrafish".
