The Federal Executive Boards were established in 1961 by Executive Memorandum.  Since then, all subsequent administrations have supported FEBs and additional boards have been authorized.  Today, there are twenty-eight FEBs serving major metropolitan areas across the nation.  The Chicago FEB was established in 1961 and serves as the Federal presence in the Chicago metropolitan area that includes the eleven county area of Cook, DuPage, McHenry, Lake, Will, Grundy, DeKalb, Kendall and Kane counties in Illinois and Lake and Porter counties in Indiana.  Currently, the Chicago FEB has 178 member agencies and serves approximately 78,000 Federal, postal, and active military personnel.

Our objectives:

  • Improve internal management practices and communications of the Federal government
  • Strengthen coordination of Federal activities by supporting and promoting initiatives of the President and his Administration
  • Provide a central focus for Federal participation in community affairs

The above objectives are met through three lines of business:

    1.  Emergency Preparedness, Security and Employee Safety
    2.  Human Capital Readiness
    3.  Intergovernmental and Community Activities
