Committee will lead major reauthorization of highway bill

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Mike Michaud was officially reappointed to serve on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.  He has served on the committee since first being elected to Congress.

“I will continue to fight for Maine’s transportation priorities on the committee in this new Congress,” said Michaud.  “This year our committee will have a lot of work to do, including a major update of our national transportation programs.  I will be fighting for a fix to our state’s truck weight problem, which forces larger trucks to divert onto smaller state roads instead of using the Interstate.  I will also be fighting to make sure that Maine gets its fair share of federal funding.  With today’s economy, it is more important than ever that we adequately fund our nation’s transportation and infrastructure.  It is estimated that each investment of $1 billion in transportation infrastructure creates about 35,000 jobs and up to $6 billion in additional gross domestic product.”

Michaud will continue his service on the following three subcommittees of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee:
  • Subcommittee on Highways and Transit
  • Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management
  • Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials
