Washington, D.C.--U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Janice R. Lachance today announced the assignment of a Voting Rights Examiner to the State of Georgia for the Primary Run-Off Election being held on August 11, 1998.
Voting Rights Examiners are federal employees assigned by OPM, under the authority of the Federal Voting Rights Act, to receive complaints of racial or minority language discriminatory voting practices.
Any registered voter or other citizen of the State of Georgia who wishes to lodge a complaint of racial or minority language discriminatory voting practices may do so by calling the Examiner, toll free, at 1-888-496-9455 from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11; from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12; or from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 1998. After Thursday, complaints of discrimination may be lodged with the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice by calling, toll free, 1-800-253-3931.
