NRC STAFF TO HOLD PREDECISIONAL ENFORCEMENT CONFERENCE IN ATLANTA
ON JULY 2 WITH EASTERN ISOTOPES, INC., OF ASHBURN, VIRGINIA
Printable Version PDF Icon

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a predecisional enforcement conference in Atlanta on July 2 with Eastern Isotopes, Inc., of Ashburn, Virginia, to discuss an apparent violation of NRC license requirements related to an overexposure to fingers on the hand of a nuclear pharmacist at a company facility at Sterling, Virginia.

The conference is scheduled to be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the NRC Region II office, located at 61 Forsyth Street, S. W., Suite 23T140, in Atlanta. During the conference, the licensee will be given the opportunity to address the apparent violation.

The conference is open to the public, and interested observers are invited to attend.

The decision to hold a predecisional enforcement conference does not mean that a determination has been made that a violation has occurred or that enforcement action will be taken. The purpose is to discuss the apparent violation, its cause and safety significance, to provide the licensee with an opportunity to point out errors that may have been made in the NRC inspection report and to enable the company to outline its corrective actions.

No decision on the apparent violation or any contemplated enforcement action, such as a civil penalty, will be made at the conference. Those decisions will be made by NRC officials at a later time.

A copy of the letter to Eastern Isotopes from the NRC regarding this conference can be obtained from the Region II Office of Public Affairs at the above address or by Internet from the NRC's electronic reading room at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.
