NRC TO MEET WITH PSEG TO DISCUSS SAFETY PERFORMANCE OF HOPE CREEK AND SALEM NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS Printable Version
Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with representatives of Public Service Electric & Gas (PSEG) Company on Tuesday, March 26, to discuss the results of the agency's annual assessment of safety performance at the Hope Creek and Salem nuclear plants. Hope Creek, a single-reactor facility, and Salem, a twin-reactor facility, are located in Salem County, N.J., and operated by PSEG Nuclear LLC. The meeting, which will be open to the public for observation, is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the PSEG Nuclear Training Center, 244 Chestnut Street, Salem, N.J. Before the session is adjourned, NRC staff will be available to answer questions from the public on the safety performance of Hope Creek and Salem Units 1 and 2, as well as the role of the NRC in ensuring safe plant operation. The performance period to be discussed is April 1, 2001, to December 31, 2001. In addition, NRC staff will provide an overview of the agency's Reactor Oversight Process. Letters sent from the NRC Region I office to PSEG address the performance of the plants during the period and will serve as the basis for the meeting discussion.
