NRC ISSUES CONFIRMATORY
ACTION LETTER TO |
||
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission
has issued a Confirmatory Action Letter to an Allentown, Pa., medical company
that provides nuclear medicine services. The letter confirms the company's
agreement to halt all NRC-licensed activities until it takes several actions
to adhere to agency regulations.
Medical Providers Capital Network has an NRC license that allows it to use certain types of nuclear material to perform diagnostic tests, such as radioactive imaging. The NRC's Region I office conducted an inspection at the firm's facility on February 27 and 28. During that inspection, agency inspectors found that the company was conducting NRC-licensed activities without an authorized user or radiation safety officer as required by its NRC license. The company also did not have a procedure manual available for its staff. Medical Providers Capital Network agreed in a telephone call on Friday (March 1) to take the following actions: immediately place all NRC-licensed nuclear materials in its possession in secure storage and cease all licensed activities until it has hired an NRC-approved authorized user and radiation safety officer; provide a written statement verifying that a qualified authorized user is actively performing the duties of an authorized user; verify that a procedure manual has been developed; and confirm that supervised individuals have been trained in the use of the new manual. |
