NRC TO MEET WITH PUBLIC ON MAY 8 IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND, TO DISCUSS FUEL FACILITY OVERSIGHT

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting on May 8 in Rockville, Maryland, to discuss ways of improving its oversight of nuclear fuel cycle facilities, which process and fabricate uranium ore into nuclear reactor fuel.

The meeting will be held in Room O-4B6 of the agency's One White Flint North building, 11555 Rockville Pike, from 9 to 10:15 a.m. The meeting will focus on the treatment of licensee corrective actions in the NRC's oversight of fuel cycle facilities.

NRC is seeking suggestions on ways to use risk information in its oversight of nuclear fuel cycle facilities. Its approach is described in two documents, SECY-99-188, "Evaluation and Proposed Revision of the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Facility Safety Inspection Program," and SECY-00-0222, "Status of Nuclear Fuel Cycle Facility Oversight Program Revision." Both documents are available at:
