NRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS SUBCOMMITTEES TO HOLD MEETINGS IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND, ON MARCH 15 AND 16

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards has scheduled a meeting of its subcommittee on thermal-hydraulic phenomena on March 15, as well as a joint session of its subcommittees on materials and metallurgy, thermal-hydraulic phenomena, and reliability and probabilistic risk assessment, on March 16.

Both meetings will be held in Room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North building, at 11545 Rockville Pike. The subcommittee meeting on March 15, most of which will be open to the public, will begin at 1:00 p.m. The joint subcommittee session on March 16, which will be entirely open to the public, will start at 8:30 a.m.

The subcommittee on thermal-hydraulic phenomena will review the Westinghouse Electric Corporation's proposed approach in addressing thermal-hydraulic issues pertaining to its AP 1000 passive plant design. The joint subcommittees will discuss the status of risk-informed revisions to the technical requirements of Section 50.46 of Title 10 of The Code of Federal Regulations, which deals with the emergency core cooling systems in nuclear power reactors.

For additional information on the thermal-hydraulic phenomena subcommittee meeting, contact Paul Boehnert, at 301-415-8065. Further information or schedule changes to the joint subcommittee session can be obtained by contacting Michael Markley, at 301-415-6885.
