NRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS TO MEET IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a technical meeting February 3-6 in Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in conference room 2B3 of the NRC's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike.

Here is the complete meeting schedule:

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3

8:30 - 8:45 a.m. -- Opening remarks by ACRS Chairman;

8:45 - 10:15 a.m. -- Status of the proposed final revision to 10 CFR 50.59 (changes, tests and experiments);

10:30 a.m. - noon -- Proposed improvements to the NRC inspection and assessment programs;

1:00 - 1:40 p.m. -- Preparation for meeting with the NRC Commissioners;

2:00 - 3:30 p.m. -- Meeting with the NRC Commissioners;

4:00 - 7:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4

8:30 - 10:00 a.m. -- Proposed final revision to 10 CFR 50.65 (maintenance rule);

10:15 - 11:45 a.m. -- SECY 98-244 (NRC human performance plan);

12:45 - 2:15 p.m. -- Proposed resolution of generic safety issue B-61 (allowable emergency core cooling system equipment outage periods);

2:30 - 4:00 p.m. -- Fire protection issues;

4:15 - 7:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports;

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5

8:30 - 9:00 a.m. -- Thermal-hydraulic phenomena subcommittee report;

9:00 - 10:15 a.m. -- Follow-up items resulting from the ACRS retreat;

10:30 - 11:15 a.m. -- Report of the planning and procedures subcommittee;

11:15 a.m. - noon -- Future ACRS activities;

1:00 - 1:30 p.m. -- Reconciliation of ACRS comments and recommendations;

1:30 - 7:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 6

8:30 a.m. - noon p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports;

noon - 12:30 p.m. -- Miscellaneous.

Although meetings of the ACRS are open, they are not part of the agency's public hearing process. The ACRS, an advisory group to the Commission, conducts independent, highly technical reviews of safety considerations related to nuclear facilities. While anyone may attend, the committee will consider only oral or written statements arranged in advance and limited to specific matters set forth in a Notice of Meeting published in an upcoming edition of the Federal Register.

The meeting may include closed sessions, if required, to discuss proprietary or personnel information.
