NRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS

TO MEET JUNE 11-13

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a technical meeting June 11-13 in Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in Conference Room 2B3 in the NRC's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike.

Although meetings of the ACRS are open, they are not part of the NRC's public hearing process. The ACRS, an advisory group to the Commission, conducts independent, highly technical reviews of safety considerations related to nuclear facilities. While anyone may attend, the committee will consider only oral or written statements arranged in advance and limited to specific matters set forth in a Notice of Meeting published in the Federal Register May 20.

The meeting may include closed sessions, if required, to discuss proprietary information.

Here is the complete meeting agenda:

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11

8:30 to 8:45 a.m. -- Opening remarks by the ACRS chairman.

8:45 - 10:45 a.m. -- Discussions with NRC staff regarding the proposed final standard review plan sections, branch technical positions and regulatory guides associated with digital instrumentation and control systems.

11:00 - 12:30 p.m. -- Discussions with NRC staff on the consequences of reactor water cleanup system line break outside containment.

1:30 - 3:30 p.m. -- Discussions with NRC staff on the probabalistic risk assessment implementation plan.

3:45 - 4:45 p.m. -- Discussions with NRC staff on the proposed staff position on severe accident rulemaking.

4:45 - 7:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

THURSDAY, JUNE 12

8:35 - 10:00 a.m. -- Discussions with NRC staff and the Nuclear Energy Institute representatives on the proposed regulatory approach for addressing steam generator tube integrity issues.

10:15 a.m. - 12:00 noon -- Discussion with NRC staff on the proposed final generic letter on assurance of net positive suction head for emergency core cooling and containment heat removal pumps.

1:00 - 2:30 p.m. -- Discussion of proposed generic letter on potential for degradation of emergency core cooling and containment spray systems following a loss of coolant accident.

2:45 - 3:00 p.m. -- Reconciliation of ACRS comments and recommendations with those from the NRC Executive Director for Operations.

3:00 - 3:30 p.m. -- Future ACRS activities.

3:30 - 6:00 p.m. -- Preparation of ACRs reports.

FRIDAY, JUNE 13

8:30 - 9:00 a.m. -- Report of the Planning and Procedures Subcommittee.

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon -- Preparation of ACRS reports.

12:00 - 1:00 p.m. -- Strategic planning.

1:00 to 1:30 p.m. -- Miscellaneous matters.
