NRC ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABILITY OF LICENSE RENEWAL
APPLICATION FOR FARLEY NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Printable Version PDF Icon

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is announcing the availability of an application for a 20-year renewal of the operating licenses for Units 1 and 2 at the Joseph M. Farley nuclear power plant. Southern Nuclear Operating Company submitted the application on Sept. 15.

The Farley plant is located near Dothan, Alabama, and the current operating licenses for Units 1 and 2 expire on June 25, 2017, and March 31, 2021, respectively.

A copy of the application will be available on the NRC web site at this address: http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/licensing/renewal/applications.html. The application also is available through the NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS). Help in using ADAMS is available by contacting the NRC Public Document Room staff at 301/415-4737 or 800/397-4209, or by sending a message to pdr.resource@nrc.gov via e-mail.

In addition, copies of the license renewal application are available at the Houston Love Memorial Library, 212 West Burdesha St., Dothan, Alabama.

The NRC staff is currently conducting an initial review of the application to determine whether it contains enough information for the required formal review. If the application has sufficient information, the NRC will formally "docket," or file, the application and will announce an opportunity to request a hearing.
