NEW NRC SENIOR
RESIDENT INSPECTOR ASSIGNED |
||
Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials
in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected David M. Kern as the new NRC senior resident
inspector at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Middletown, Pa. He
joins Resident Inspector Javier Brand at the site, which is operated by Amergen.
He replaces Craig Smith, who was reassigned as the senior resident inspector
at Peach Bottom Power Station in September.
Mr. Kern was promoted to senior resident inspector at the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station, in Shippingport, Pa., in September 1996. He began his NRC career in 1990 in the Region I office as a reactor engineer. He has worked as a resident inspector at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, Mass., and at the Surry Nuclear Power Station in Surry, Va. Prior to joining the agency, Mr Kern worked at CACI International, Inc., in Fairfax, Va. He also served as an officer in the United States Navy. Mr. Kern earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. In the Spring of this year, Mr. Kern received a Meritorious Service Award from the Agency in recognition of his work as a resident inspector. The Three Mile Island resident inspectors can be reached at 717/948-1165. Each U.S. commercial nuclear plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. |
