PREHEARING
CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR DEC. 11 |
||
A prehearing conference
will be held on Thursday, December 11, in Quakertown, Pa., regarding a petition
challenging an NRC license granted to CFC Logistics, Inc. The license allows
the company to operate a cobalt-60 irradiator at its food storage warehouse
in Milford Township (Bucks County), Pa.
In October, an NRC judge granted certain Quakertown residents a hearing to oppose the NRC license granted to CFC Logistics in August. The judge ruled that the petitioners had legal standing to seek the hearing and that some of their areas of concern were germane to the hearing process. The prehearing conference will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the William Penn Room of the Hampton Inn, 915 John Fries Highway in Quakertown. The conference is open to public observation. However, participation is limited to the parties involved in the proceeding and their representatives. The matters to be covered at the session include narrowing, clarifying or focusing the issues for the hearing; establishing a schedule for the filing of responses to any additional intervention petitions that may have been filed (unless no opposition to such petitions is contemplated) and for a ruling on those petitions; and considering arguments for and against a renewed request by the petitioners for a stay of the company’s license. The Chairman of the NRC’s independent Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Panel appointed Judge Michael C. Farrar as presiding officer in this case. His Special Assistant for purposes of analyzing technical matters is Judge Charles N. Kelber, Ph.D. |
