NRC ASSIGNS NEW SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR
TO CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR PLANT
Printable Version PDF Icon

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region I office in King of Prussia have selected Mark A. Giles as the senior resident inspector at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Plant in Lusby, Md. He joins Resident Inspector Joseph O’Hara at the two-unit site. Giles replaces David Beaulieu who was reassigned to a position at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Md.

Giles joined the NRC in 1997 as a project engineer in the Region II Division of Reactor Projects. Most recently he was a resident inspector at Catawba Nuclear Station, near Rock Hill, S.C. Prior to joining the agency, he worked as a shift technical advisor and senior system engineer at the Turkey Point nuclear plant in Florida City, Fla.; as a shift test engineer at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Va.; and as a mechanical engineer at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock, Co., in Newport News, Va. Giles has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree in construction management from Florida International University.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting daily with plant workers and the public.

The Calvert Cliffs resident inspectors can be reached at 410/586-2626.
