Printable Version PDF Icon

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region I office in King of Prussia have selected Mel Gray as the senior resident inspector at the Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Station, in Hancocks Bridge, N.J. He joins Resident Inspector Mark Ferdas at Hope Creek.

Gray replaces Joe Schoppy who was reassigned to the Region I office.

Most recently, Gray was a senior reactor inspector in Region I. He joined the agency as a project manager in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Md., in March 1998. He transferred to the Region I Division of Reactor Safety as a reactor inspector in June 1999, and was promoted to senior reactor inspector in June 2002. Prior to joining the NRC, Gray worked for eleven years as an engineer at the Salem Power Station in Hancock’s Bridge, N.J., and at United Engineers & Constructors in Philadelphia.

Gray holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Delaware and is a licenced professional engineer in the State of Delaware. Gray and his family reside in Wilmington.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.

The Hope Creek resident inspectors can be reached at 856/935-5373.
