U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region II office in Atlanta have announced the assignment of Randall A. (Randy) Musser as the new Senior Resident Inspector at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant southwest of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Musser had been the Senior Resident Inspector at the Surry Nuclear Power Station in southeastern Virginia since August 1996. He is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and in 1982, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Marine (Mechanical) Engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. He began his career with Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he was assigned to the Nuclear Engineering Department’s Reactor Engineering Division as a Shift Refueling Engineer. When Musser joined the NRC in 1987, he became the Resident Inspector at the Hatch Nuclear Plant near Baxley, Georgia. In 1992, he transferred to the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant near Athens. Alabama, where he was the primary Resident Inspector for Browns Ferry Unit 3, a unit undergoing recovery following a long-term shutdown.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has assigned NRC resident inspectors who serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interfacing with plant workers and the public.

Musser joins NRC Resident Inspector Bob Hagar and Site Secretary Ann Kroeger at the Harris plant. The NRC inspectors at Harris can be reached at 919-362-0601.
